Drone Operator
North Cottesloe SLSC operates a remotely piloted aircraft (RPA or Drone) program to assist with beach operations. Aerial surveillance greatly expands the capability of the patrol, enabling Patrol Captains to deploy resources efficiently to carry out preventative actions and respond to emergencies. Patrol members are encouraged to acquire the CASA credentials and skills to fly them. On completion of their RPA Operator Accreditation, an online course and a practical session, pilots are ready to fly surveillance patrols. Pilots are eligible for a SLSWA Drone Award after completing a series of flights on Patrol. This prepares them to fly solo, at authorised club events or at other beaches.
The Drone program is a specialised role within the patrol and applications for training are required.
