NCSLSC CCGS Cadet Program

The NCSLSC CCGS Cadet program aims to equip students with the ability to operate effectively as a first responder and to acquire the necessary skill set to save a life. It introduces students to the Surf Life Saving movement and its core values, providing young men with the opportunity to progress to higher surf lifesaving qualifications and become active members of their local surf lifesaving club.

 

The North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club and Christ Church Grammar School program aims to equip students with the ability to operate effectively as a first responders and to acquire the necessary skill set to save lives. It introduces students to the Surf Life Saving movement and its core values.


Year 10 students attain their Bronze Medallion and Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) which enables them to patrol as a volunteer Surf Life Saver.

Year 11 and 12 students are selected for the Cadet Leadership team and assist in delivering the program by providing mentoring, instruction and water safety. They also attain additional awards including:

The development and enhancement of physical fitness applicable to beach and surf-related activities is a wonderful benefit to all participants. The program furnishes students with a positive and stable influence on their mental health and well-being.

The program runs every Friday afternoon from the commencement of the school term and continues until the start of Term 4. The students complete their assessment over a weekend in September.


History of the CCGS Cadet Program

  • In 2002 the School approached local surf clubs to outline the collaboration that would be beneficial to both the club and the participants in a newly created program.
