Assessor
The Assessor award provides participants with the skills, knowledge and experience to competently assess surf life saving awards and nationally recognised qualifications.
Prerequisites:
Minimum 18 years of age (on the day of final assessment)
Financial member of the Surf Life Saving Club
Hold the SLSA awards that you intend to assess

Course length is estimated at about 2 hours (dependent on group size and prior knowledge/abilities). This is typically a weeknight session. This includes practical sessions and the assessment.
The course is run with participants from multiple Surf Clubs.
Pathway
For all WA TAF awards, a logbook is required to be completed. This provides evidence for the award Trained, assessed, facilitated and must be completed in detail, including comments where relevant by the probationary TAF’s supervisor/mentor.

Learning outcomes
Assessors have the responsibility of ensuring that the standards are maintained and deliver skills maintenance checks to keep members awards and skills current. Assessors must:
Have the latest version of the assessment criteria for the award that is being assessed
Brief the candidates on what to expect and check for understanding
Conduct a fair, flexible, valid and reliable assessment
Provide candidates with feedback
Ensure candidate Assessment Portfolios are checked thoroughly for correct evidence and completion of required training
Provide support to the Assessor-in-Charge (AIC) and carry out duties as requested
Assessment
Assessment is through demonstration, presentation and application of all elements of competency in the work-place. Participants will be required to complete activities that may include role-plays, oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations and performing scenarios.
