Our dedicated Education team put in the time to engage, train and requalify our members so that we can meet the SLS standard.

North Cott SLSC prides itself in training Surf Rescue Certificate and Bronze Medallion courses to a high standard. In addition to these courses, there are a number of Higher Awards that members can gain to improve their skills and patrol position within surf life saving.

Basic Patrolling Awards

Surf lifesavers undertake a number of roles including aquatic rescues, providing first aid and emergency care and providing surf safety information to the public.

The Surf Rescue Certificate is a stepping stone to the full Bronze Medallion that is generally the minimum standard required for full patrolling duties.



Advanced Awards

Advanced Awards

After attaining a Bronze Medallion members are encouraged and supported to attend FREE training to expand their skillset on patrol.

The Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (ART) course teaches the principles of airway management, oxygen aided resuscitation, and major bleeding management.

The Patrol Captain is the leader of their patrol’s lifesaving functions on the beach and provides mentorship and support to their patrol.

A Gold Medallion Lifesaver has the advanced skills needed to rescue and provide emergency care – alone if necessary.




Powercraft

Powercraft

After attaining a Bronze Medallion members are encouraged and supported to attend FREE training to expand their skillset on patrol.

The Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) Crew course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively crew an Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) in surf rescue operations

The IRB Driver is responsible for safely operating the IRB in the surf zone and managing the IRB Crew.

The Rescue Water Craft (RWC) Operator course provides participants with advanced skills and knowledge to effectively drive and manage a RWC (Jetski) in lifesaving operations.

Training officers inspire and educate other surf lifesavers by conducting entry-level and up-skilling training courses and SLSA awards.

Assessors support the high quality and nationally consistent assessment of specified Surf Life Saving awards. 



Terms and Conditions

Please be advised of the following terms and conditions for NCSLSC courses:

  • Cancellation of the course of more than 15 days prior will be fully refundable
  • Cancellation of the course between 2 and 14 days of the first session will be charged at 50% of the course fee
  • No-shows will be charged the full course fee, no refunds will be given

You may transfer to an alternative course should there be vacancies. The first transfer is provided free of charge however for second and subsequent transfers and administration fee of $50 will apply.
