Member Education is a pivotal point of Surf Life Saving and takes high priority within North Cottesloe’s organisation. Nippers learn surf skills and safety on the beach which helps prepare them for the Surf Rescue Certificate at age 13 and the Bronze Medallion at age 15. Potential new members must first gain their Bronze Medallion to become active members and we strive to offer as many opportunities as possible to gain various surf lifesaving awards. The bronze is the key award associated with any club, but we also endeavor to run many higher awards such as ARTC, IRB driver and crew, and spinal management to name a few. Details and dates for these are always posted in the Member’s section.
Member Education is of great importance for Surf Life Saving. Without training the core awards of SRC and Bronze Medallion, volunteer surf life savers would not be able to patrol our beach and represent the Club in surf life saving competition.
Our dedicated Education Leadership Group and many more volunteers put in the time to coordinate, train and requalify our members so that we can meet the SLS standard.
North Cott SLSC prides itself at training SRC and Bronze Medallion to a high standard.
In addition to these courses there are a number of Higher Awards that members can gain to improve their skills and patrol position within surf life saving.
Information about each Award is explained below with links to the course syllabus, learner guides and other education resources. Members can also access the most up to date versions of these resources via the SLSA Member Portal.
